Container transports
The concept of multimodal or intermodal transport as a mode of transport in which a container is carried on its way from the sender to the consignee on different means of transport was born in the 60s of the last century as a result of the development of sea transport, as a result of transition for transporting goods in containers. See the Sea Shipping section for more details.
From a legal point of view, multimodal transport means the possibility of transporting goods using different means of transport under one transport contract. The transport company that accepts the transport order is liable for all other transport companies involved in this transport. The practical application of multimodal transport can be demonstrated using the following examples:
1. Transportation of the container from the loading point to the sea port on a truck, shipment of the container to the destination port, delivery of the container by road to the place of delivery. This is the most widely used transport scheme in the world in multimodal transport.
2. Transport of the container from the place of loading to the seaport by road, transport of the container by rail to the recipient's country, delivery of the container by road to the place of the recipient. This transport scheme is used for transportation from European countries to Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Mongolia and China. Container trains or block trains that transport goods from China to Europe also work according to this principle.
3. Transport of the container from the place of loading to the sea port by road or rail, transport of the container by sea to the port of destination, delivery of the container by rail to the station near the place of unloading, delivery of the container by road to the place of delivery. This system is used for transportation between countries with an extensive rail network such as the CIS countries, China, USA, Canada and Mexico.
